ISB ~ Luke 22 v70

The Sanhedrin hears this loud and clear, judging that his response crosses the line of “blasphemy” (Mt 26:65). Since only the Romans could administer capital punishment in NT Palestine (Jn 18:31), the Jewish authorities now present Jesus to them as a “king” and rival to Caesar (23:2; CCC 596).
