children of wrath:i.e., enemies of God liable to judgment. This results (1) from the dismal inheritance of Original Sin, which spreads to every living person by natural generation (by nature, 2:3), and (2) from the actual sins and ongoing rebellion of the human family against God (trespasses and sins, 2:1) (CCC 402-5).
