Peter, an apostle:Simon, the leader of the Twelve (Mt 10:2). Jesus renamed him “Peter”, from the Greek petros, meaning “rock”. The Aramaic equivalent of Peter is rendered “Cephas” (Jn 1:42) (CCC 552).
