FULFILLING GOD’S COMMANDMENTS. ANDREAS: The person who loves God keeps his commandments, and loving one’s brother is the fulfillment of those commandments. The person who does not love his brother has not kept the commandments and by not keeping them has not loved God. The one who says he loves but does not do so is a liar. CATENA.

THIS COMMANDMENT FROM GOD. BEDE: How can you love someone if you hate what he asks you to do? Who is there who would say that he loves the emperor but cannot abide his laws? The true lover of God is one who loves his commandments also, as Psalm 119 makes perfectly clear. ON 1 JOHN.
